Cote d'Ivoire will host 77th plenary meeting of the international cotton advisory committee

The Standing committee of the International Cotton Advisory Committee (ICAC) met on Tuesday, 31 May 2017, in Washington D.C., USA.

Côte d’Ivoire took part in this meeting through an important delegation headed by H.E. Mr Daouda Diabaté, Extraordinary and plenipotentiary Ambassador to the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire to the United States of America. He was accompanied by Mr. Aly Touré, Permanent Representative of Côte d’Ivoire to International Commodity Organisations and officials from the Embassy of Côte d’Ivoire in the United States. During that meeting, Côte d’Ivoire offered to host the 77th Plenary Meeting of ICAC,
which is to be held in 2018. Following the ambassador’s intervention, the members of the Standing Committee unanimously decided to accept Côte d’Ivoire’s invitation for the 2018 Assembly.

This date will furthermore mark the 45th anniversary of Côte d’Ivoire’s accession, in 1973, to this intergovernmental organisation which was created in September 1939, in Washington D.C., to encourage cooperation around coton and serve as a platform of exchange for technical information related to the production, consumption, trade and inventories of coton. Moreover, ICAC constitutes a forum for discussion that promotes a healthy, profitable and sustainable coton economy.

Finally, the organisation of the 77th Plenary meeting in Côte d’Ivoire will give our country the opportunity , as the first West-African member country of ICAC, to take an active part in the dialogue on the challenges facing the world cotton economy.
