Indeed, at the occasion of the 76th Plenary Meeting of ICAC which took place from 22 to 27 October 2017, in Tachkent, Ouzbekistan, the 55 member countries of this inter-governmental organisation have decided to uphold the recommendation made, in May 2017, by its Standing Committee, to hold the next Plenary Meeting of ICAC in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.

During this gathering, member-countries decided to embark in a new strategic direction, following the successful completion of the task undertaken by the Working Group on the Strategic Review of the International Coffee Organisation, under the chairmanship of Mr Aly Touré, Permanent Representative of Côte d’Ivoire.

As a result, a Five-year Action Plan was adopted with a view to “emphasizing the contribution of coffee to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) through income generation and poverty alleviation”. 

The theme for this event is Sustainable Coffee Development for the Emergence of African Coffee. It will be followed by the 57th Annual General Assembly meeting, due to take place from 06 to 08 December 2017, in Grand-Bassam, Côte d’Ivoire.

Under the chairmanship of Mr. Aly Touré, the Board of Directors examined the IACO 2017-2022 strategic plan and the progress report for the construction of the Organisation’s future Headquarters.

The ICA 2010 came into force five years ago and was due for a review which would establish its relevance in the current economic climate. Hence, the Council decided that the International Cocoa Agreement was still a useful tool which should be amended, in line with Article 63. 

Accompanied by Mr. Aly Touré, Permanent Representative of Côte d’Ivoire to International Commodity Organisations and Dr Denis Seudieu, Chief Economist at ICO, Mr Sette seized the opportunity of his visit to thank Côte d’Ivoire for its support in the election process and its longstanding contribution to the development of a sustainable world coffee economy.

This event was jointly organised by the World Cocoa Foundation (WCF), the Sustainable Trade Initiative (IDH) and the International Sustainability Unit (ISU) which was established by HRH The Prince of Wales.

Côte d’Ivoire took part in this meeting through a delegation led by HE Mr Georges Aboua, ambassador of Côte d’Ivoire to the United Kingdom, who was accompanied by Mr. Aly Touré, Permanent Representative to International Commodity Organisations.

The International Grains Council is the intergovernmental body responsible for the implementation of the 1995 Grains Trade Convention and the 1995 Food Aid Convention. IGC represents an independent source of information and analysis on the international market for grains, rice and oilseeds. It facilitates the follow-up of national grains policies and a greater collaboration between Governments and the private sector.

Côte d’Ivoire took part in this meeting through an important delegation headed by H.E. Mr Daouda Diabaté, Extraordinary and plenipotentiary Ambassador to the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire to the United States of America. He was accompanied by Mr. Aly Touré, Permanent Representative of Côte d’Ivoire to International Commodity Organisations and officials from the Embassy of Côte d’Ivoire in the United States.
